Amsterdam Theatre, New York, NY Decorative painting restoration throughout
Art Nouveau-style theater which had been dark for 20 years and badly water
damaged due to a caved-in roof. Project architect was Hugh Harding, who
prescribed complex glazing techniques overtop very elaborate ornamental
plaster through-out the theatre, most especially the house ceiling and
balcony faces, silver leaf with amber shellac in the domes of the Grand
Promenade and the seraphim covering the entire ceiling of the (former)
Men's Club Room, stenciling in the box seats and barrel vault of the Reception
Room, mural replication, restoration of encaustic portraits, faux stone
over bas relief panels which depict scenes from classic plays (Shakespeare,
Euripides, etc.) in the entrance.
